MTB (shorcut from mountain bike) is a computer game which simulates riding a mountain bike. There's two types of races: picking up special objects called bonuses and clasic race with one or more lap. You can choose from 15 tracks or random generated track (only for picking up bonuses). On the track there are fencings, trees and stones. You can also choose from game for one player or two players. Best results are written into the table. You can set up fog, music, sounds and controls. Bicycle behaves realisticly, gravitation, air resistance, attrition and wind take effect on the bicycle, even it jumps. You can also gear up (up the hill you must set up lower gearing).
After program is loaded, you will see main menu.
After program is loaded, you will see main menu, which contains these buttons:
When you are riding bike, you can show pause menu and stop game (timer and bicycle is stopped) by pressing key P or Escape. With the same keys, you can hide pause menu and continue playing game (timer will continue; if the bicycle was moving before pause, it starts moving again). Pause menu has 3 buttons:
Settings is separated into control settings, sound settings and control settings for two players (separated to the settings for the first and the second player).
In the sound settings you can set up volume of music and sounds in the game (0 = sound is off; 100 = maximum volume).
In the all control settings you can change keyboard keys of turnig, braking, acceleration and shifting. Click on the key you want to change and press new key. You can set up keys from A to Z, arrows, space, numbers from 1 to 9 on the Num Lock, function keys, Home, End, Delete, Page Up and Page down. With button Reset you can refresh original values (game for one player: arrows for turnig, braking and acceleration and W, A, S, D for shifting).
In this menu you can see information about chosen track (name, maximum height, number of bonuses or laps and short description). With the arrows on the top, you can choose another track. Under the track description there's scroll bar of fog (0 = no fog, 100 = maximum fog density). Button Start opens chosen track and starts game (before it, you are asked to choose how many players will ride), button Back leads to the main menu.
Instead of any track made by the authors, you can generate random track with random number of bonuses (2 - 20) with the button Random terrain. On the random track there are random number of trees and the terrain is also random with maximum height of 100. With the arrows on the top you can return to selecting tracks.
In any menu you can select language of program (Czech or English). Click on the flag and all of notices will be changed.
The game contains tables of best results for each track (but not for random terrain). With arrows on the top, you can change track, which is shown. You can reset result in the shown track with button Reset (all results will be replaced with Anonym and 1 hour). If you have finished any track and you have better time than the tenth in the results table, game will ask you for your name and writes it to the table.
Button Ok leads to the main menu.
After selecting track, choosing the number of players, loading and pressing the button Ok (or Enter), the game will start and you can control bicycle from now. Timer also starts.
On the screen you can see timer and number of bonuses you have to pick up or number of laps (actual lap/total number of laps) in the right top corner. On the bottom in the center there's tachometer (shows speed of bicycle in km/h). You can see which front gearing do you have on the left side of tachometer, back gearing is on the right. In the left top corner there's orange wind indicator. If it's filled with orange colour, the wind is strong, if it's not filled, there's no wind (wind is randomly generated before game starts). If the wind indicator points to the top of the screen, the wind urges the bicycle along, if it points to the bottom, the wind brakes the bicycle.
When you want to pause or exit the game, set up control or sounds, press P or Esc, the game will be paused (the bicycle and the timer will be stopped) and you will see menu of pause.
You can also change between two views of camera: the view from the back (key F4, it's default view), and the first person view (from biker's eyes, key F5 ).Camera can be skew with keys Page Up and Page Down.
You can accelarate with up arrow, brake with down arrow and turn with left and right arrrow. Back gearing can be increased with key W and decreased with key S, front gearing can be increased with key A and decreased with key D (in the game for one player). You can change all this keys in settings. Bicycle has 9 back and 3 front gearings. Harder gearing has the large number (gearing 9 is the hardest in the back and 3 in the front) and front gearigs are more significant. It's better to use hardest gearings down the hill or on flat terrain, lighter gearigs can be useful only up the hill (for every hill you can find out the best gearing).
There are three types of objects on the terrain: long fencings, trees and relatively small stones. If you hit them, a noise sounds and bicycle is given back to the position where it was before a while. If you reach the edge of terrain which is bordered by high grey rocks, a message appears and after pressing Ok or Enter bicycle will be given back.
Cycling is realistic. Gravitation, air resistance, attrition and wind take effect on the bicycle. If you turn round, bicycle inclines to the side and the speed of turning increases with the inclination. When you ride fast, bicycle doesn't turn round as much as in the small speed. Inclination depends on the speed. Maximal inclination is 45°. If you go fast and you go over out-of-flatness, bicycle jump.
If you have chosen game for two players, the screen is separated horizontally to two halves. Every player has his own tachometer, timer, wind indicator and so on, but some pictures are smaller than they are in the game for one player. You must be faster than your competitor or you must collect more bonuses.
The game has two types:
You must pass all the laps as fast as you can. You can reach the next lap by passing the end (big black arch with sign "End"). Track is usually bordered with fencings and the start position of bicycle is behind the end.
In this game you must pick up all the bonuses (small pouches with mark of dollar). You pick them up when you run against them.
